Bursting my blogging bubble.
4:29 pmI've been in a bit of a blogging rut recently. I've just felt uninspired, and with the time I'd normally blog, I've found myself just not doing it. I'm sure there are many reasons for this: my workload at uni has gone up, I've not been very well for a few weeks and I've actually been interested in what we're doing at uni for once; but mostly I just didn't have any passion to write. Blogging no longer felt like a release, but rather a burden.
I started my blog as a way of taking note of what products do and don't work for me/my skin type/my hair type, and hopefully being able to help a few people with similar skin/hair/needs on the way, but like most beginner bloggers, I found myself looking at my stats way too much and becoming discouraged when only a few people were reading my posts. I started buying products I didn't need just to review them, or just because I had seen other people posting about them. Obviously, my bank balance cannot keep up with this, nor can it keep me interested for long.
I'm not the same person I was when I started blogging almost 2 years ago. I've realised its not about how many people read my blog, or follow me on twitter, but who does. I like the social side of blogging, but am always working during #bbloggers chats or the likes, so it really means a lot when I get comments on my posts. I like to know people are actually reading and engaging with what I'm saying, rather than just reading so they can leave their link at the end of a comment.
The blog posts I write, aren't the ones I read regularly. I will read a review of a product if I feel like it's something I might buy, but I don't even bother clicking something I have no interest in (mostly because I know I'll want it even if I don't need it). I like to read about people, my favourite blogs like Milk Bubble Tea and Little Blog Of Horrors etc, are about the people who write them, heir lives, their interests with bits of beauty mixed in, not product after product.
With the revelation that what I love about blogging, is the people who blog and read blogs, I've come to realise that I can no longer just pump out review after review, because that is not me as a person anymore. I'm far less materialistic than I used to be. I love music, I'm doing a degree in photography, I live in a zoo, I like to think I can bake when I really can't, I go through phases of doing everything DIY then giving up halfway though every singe time, I've been engaged sine I was 18, I bounce between being overly healthy and being a takeaway queen weekly, I love long walks and watching hours and hours of rubbish tv: These are the things that make me me, and thats what I endeavour to share through this blog now.
So, getting my blogging mojo back may take me a while, but just stick with me. There is going to be a big increase in the 'lifestyle' type posts I do. I'll still post reviews or what products I like, because I'm not just giving up using beauty products, I love a good bath and I'm forever searching for my holy grail foundation, but there is more to me than the paint I slap on my face every morning.
Also, a quick thank you to everyone who follows me. I recently reached 200 followers on GFC and 150 on Bloglovin'. I appreciate every single one of you more than you'll ever know.

I just came across this post through my bloglovin' feed and am so glad I did! I know how you feel, I've gone through stages of on and off blogging simply because I think I haven't really found my niche yet. But like you, I love reading blogs about people and the things they like doing. I just followed you - I get super excited when I find "beauty" bloggers that do lifestyle posts. They're defo my favourite.

I'm so glad someone else gets it. I feel a bit silly saying 'I've lost my blogging ways'. After writing this, I actually can't wait to get blogging again, I've got 3/4 posts i'm mid writing/photographing already!
DeleteI agree, learning about people is so interesting. I love beauty products, but not enough to talk about them 24/7 haha.
Will be following you back! Your blog is lovely.
